Your route follows the towpath and the cycle route to 80% …You will discover the impressive hydraulic machine that is the Nivernais Canal, with ponds, vaults, trenches and locks. You will do it some infidelities to discover the sights of the neighborhood (10 km distance). You'll have the opportunity to visit, scattered in the differents of landscapes, pretty villages and their churches, chapels and wash houses.

Program
Arrival by train, or with our shuttle, or with your own car to Corbigny.
Day 1: Easy ride to the highest point of the Canal (20 miles)
Departure from Corbigny toward Chitry-les-Mines (village of Jules Renard), then you cycle up in the tranquil valley of Sardy (superb) toward the highest point of the Canal : limit of watershed and the water reserves to feed the canal.
You will discover the vaults of the Collancelle, tunnels under which the Nivernais disappears. Awesome work!
You will be charmed by the ponds Baye and Vaux, While cycling on the dike between those two ponds. Very soothing !
Day 2: Corbigny – Clamecy (28 miles)
While leaving Corbigny, visit a cottage industry of tile eighteenth century still active, and then go back to the valley, to follow alternately the Canal du Nivernais and the River Yonne. You will cross Tannay and its vineyards to arrive in Clamecy, stronghold of the "floating wood".
The last few kilometers between from Tannay and Clamecy goes away a bit from the canal: A few back roads in the woods and hills to discover pretty villages and the meandering fossil of Chevroches. At Clamecy, you can visit the old city, the collegial church dedicated to St. Martin and Roland Roman Museum, with the 3rd floor only for "floating wood"
Day 3: Clamecy – Auxerre (35 miles)
From Clamecy, you cross the remnants of a coral reef, with the cliffs of Surgy, Mailly-le-chateau perched on a ledge, and the rocks of Saussois. You will also discover the fortified farm of Basseville, Faulin Castle and a medieval village perched on the hill: Chatel-Censoir.
You then take the direction of Auxerre for the wineyard part of the trip. You will make a slight detour to Irancy, a wellknown village with its beautiful "pinots noirs".
Then back to the banks of the Yonne near Bailly. You will visit wineries installed in an huge limestone quarry. After these visits and tastings, it will be time to let you slide along the Yonne towards Auxerre.
End of your trip in Auxerre, the north gate of the Canal du Nivernais. You must visit the Old Town (walk or bicycle) for an enjoyable end of your stay.
